"Management of psychological distress by non-specialists in conflict-affected areas"

In the past decade, there has been a renewed emphasis on global mental health and increased attention on strategies to scale up mental health intervention in low-income and middle-income countries.
The rationale for this intervention is high unmet need, resource limitations, and barriers to care in such settings. Therefore, focus has been on developing interventions that can be implemented by non-mental health professionals, who are supported through training and supervision. Several counter-arguments to this approach have been made, particularly in relation to the application of a psychiatric and biomedical perspective to problems that have their roots in geopolitical and social contexts.
