Cuando se celebra en toda la Tierra el Día Mundial del Medio Ambiente, se hace necesario detenernos un instante para recordar el papel crucial que el sector primario juega a la hora de contribuir a salvar el planeta.

To address the unprecedented challenge posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, much of the world — including an estimated 90% of Americans — was locked down and socially distanced. Large gatherings were prohibited, most schools and nonessential business-es  were  closed,  and  people  were  asked  to  stay  at  home  or  shelter  in place.

I have been thinking a lot about fear  lately,  and  how  much  it  behaves  like  a  virus.  How  it  can  spread insidiously, person to per-son,  or  airborne,  through  new  media  and  old,  faster  than  we  can  contain  it.  How  it  induces  so  many  of  the  same  symptoms  as a virus does: sweating, palpita-tion, nausea, shivering, and some-times  an  almost  overwhelming  desire to curl up under a blanket in  a  dark  room  and  stay  there.  How  once  fear  has  infected  you,  it  is  hard  to  get  rid  of,  but  ex-tremely easy to pass on to others.

COVID-19 poses an extraordinary threat to global public health and an effective vaccine could provide a key means of overcoming this crisis. Human challenge studies involve the intentional infection of research participants and can accelerate  or  improve  vaccine  development  by  rapidly  providing  estimates  of  vaccine  safety  and  efficacy.
