UB: top Spanish university in SIR Global 2013

The annual SCImago Research Group (SIR) ranking, which analyses research outputs of worldwide institutions, places the UB at number 163, 3 positions above last year’s score, and at number 47 in the specific area of Western Europe. These results ratify UB’s second position with regard to institutions in Spain —only surpassed by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC)—  and its first position concerning universities.

According to SIR Global 2013, UB has increased the number of documents published on academic journals indexed on Scopus; citations in relation to the global average; the amount of scientific production included in 10 % of the works with most citations within their respective areas; and the level of internationalisation, by registering a rise in the percentage of scientific production published in collaboration with foreign institutions.

The SIR evaluations are considered to be the most complete classification of institutions in terms of research results. The ranking focuses on scientific publications from the past five years and only takes into account institutions (universities and research centres) which, in the past year, produced a minimum of 100 researches included in the Scopus database, the largest database in the world.

Moreover, UB is once again the Spanish university that tops the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2013 (ARWU). To be exact, UB is among the universities placed between numbers 201 and 300. This annual ranking is published by the Centre for World-Class Universities of Jiao Tong University in Shanghai (China).
